Pigs Eat Wolves Online Course

Eleven lessons from the Pigs Eat Wolves book, plus exercises to make it practical.

Pigs Eat Wolves Online Course

This online course invites you to learn and practice concepts found in the book Pigs Eat Wolves: Going Into Partnership With Your Dark Side, by Yogiraj Charles Bates (1942-2012) Pigs Eat Wolves® is a tale about growing the wise self through examining and partnering with our shadow side. Carl Jung said that our shadow side is 90% gold. Why, then, do we fear it? We often do because the shadow comprises our exalted and despised parts. Essentially, most of us paradoxically fear and deny both sides. We furtively thrust our exalted and despised selves into the darkness and then fear and blame the darkness for what we place in it. This life-altering framework and enduring study follows Yogiraj's analysis and application of the story, The Three Little Pigs, by guiding participants to explore themselves by seeing others.  Pigs Eat Wolves is a view of our shadow that renowned Jungian Psychiatrist Dr. Marie Louise Von Franz endorsed by saying, "Pigs Eat Wolves is very accurate."

Welcome to this training.

First, let's consider what is meant by your 'dark side' in the book Pigs Eat Wolves. During this course, you will also hear the term referred to as the shadow. Both refer to obscured aspects of self that are actively influencing the decisions you or I make. It's often the case that our actions are informed by motives that are out of our line of sight. This can create confusion, frustration and even harm. We'll discuss this in detail in the program.

Another word you will hear used in this program is ego, the aspect of us that wants to be identified in particular ways. Each of us has preferences that make up our sense of self. These preferences stem from what we believe. And, our beliefs evolve from both internal experiences, such as how our senses (smell, touch, etc.) operate, and external dynamics, our geographical location for example.

This training will guide you through exercises to help you understand what you believe and what has informed your beliefs. Understanding your beliefs can give you an advantage when navigating decisions.

Sometimes ego nature attempts to shut out certain thoughts while emphasizing other thoughts. Being aware of how our ego operates allows us to illuminate the ideas we hold that have been hidden in the dark and make them more accessible for inquiry.

Once we can see more clearly what is informing our motivations, it becomes easier to align our actions with choices we make consciously rather than habits we've formed unconsciously.

In preparation for this program, start to take notes on what confuses you. We'll work with these during the course.

Start a journal dedicated to this program or take notes on this sheet, provided in the downloads section for your convenience.

A thought about exploring our shadow natures, inspired by Joanna Nelson, who practices many approaches for self-discovery, including several shared from 10th Dot.

When we thrust our despised selves into the darkness – not even aware that we’re shoving our exalted selves in there, too – it can come back to bite us in the butt! For example, we can wind up taking actions we have criticized and disliked in others, a form of “acting out.”  And, we can believe something isn't possible for us that IS readily available.

When, instead, we explore the shadow side, with gentleness from shame, revulsion, or ignorance we’ve cultivated, we may find relief even if what we feared happens. We can recover some of our zone of genius, our care for ourselves and others. We are likely to create more connections with our loved ones.
